MegaTech Projects Doing Our Bit For Calum

Calum’s Cabin is a charity started in memory of Calum Speirs. After being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour in January 2006 Calum passed away in February 2007 at the age of 12. Calum came up with the idea of Calum’s Cabin over that 13 months, his idea was to provide a cabin on his home island of Bute that could offer a retreat for families with children suffering from cancer. The charity, inspired by Calum’s selfless attitude, welcomed the first family to the cabin in February 2009 and in November 2011 Calum’s cottage also opened its doors to families.

Moving on from the family retreat, Calum’s cabin recently opened up three brand new flats in the city centre of Glasgow. The flats provide a home for families of children requiring cancer treatment from the Highland’s & Island’s, the Grampians & Aberdeen. MegaTech Projects Ltd (MPL) took the opportunity to help Calum’s Cabin with this.

Having initially made contact with Calum’s Cabin in 2018 MPL thought about making a donation to Calum’s charity but decided to do something a little different. After hearing about the charities plan to buy two flats in the Glasgow area, MPL helped with the acquisition and furbishing of the flats which would welcome families for the duration of their child’s treatment. Karen Campbell Interiors generously gave their time to work some magic on the flats and they quickly became welcoming homes.

In February 2020 Calum’s Cabin Flats welcomed their first families. Great work everyone and special thanks to Caroline & Duncan for allowing us to be a part of this amazing Charity. Also to Sylvia and Andrew at Cala for all your patience and assistance.
