Exeter St James

Two down, one to go.

Following the installation of a 22m extension at Lympstone Commando in October, MegaTech Projects Ltd (MPL) completed the installation of a 50m Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) extension at Exeter St James station in December 2020. There are 3 stations included in the Devon and Cornwall project with Dyer and Butler which leaves 2nr extensions to be completed at Eggesford station in 2021.

The platform installation at Exeter St James was undertook during a 53 hour Christmas Blockade and required a total of 20 working hours to complete. The entire platform was ready for entry into service (all fencing etc. completed) in just 31 working hours.

A land drain which would run through the centre of the platforms footprint provided the greatest challenge at Exeter St James. To tackle this MPL pre-fabricated the EPS blocks to sit around this meaning a screed either side of the drain would be required but it allowed MPL and D&B to leave the pipe undisturbed and complete the platform installation ahead of programme to the clients satisfaction.
